Geez, this place needs help. First off I see we have lost a piece of our header. Where did it go? Who knows! I will look into that. Second, Jason is just going off the deep end here. An enjoyable diversion but let's get back to our usual programming! Weekend fun in pictures!

Spring Break starts tomorrow so we should have lots of opportunities for pictures. I feel like life has been moving pretty fast lately and I can't keep up very well. I will try to do better!

On Friday Wesley received a certificate from the Principal of his school. It was given to only a few students of the school and was for exhibiting the spirit of respect, which is part of the schools values.

Obviously as a parent you work at helping your children to be respectful. It is nice to see those efforts recognized independent of us. (even though completely unexpected/unanticipated).

I thought I would write about a few changes to our blog. Mostly, these are new things I have been coming across as well as two other places I am blogging these days. There are tons of fun, new technology tools and resources these days. Web 2.0 has brought about lots of interesting stuff. For those of you that have followed Wendy's posts I am sure I have lost you by now as many of my interest lie in technology, business, etc...

Anyway, I have compartmentalized my interests and put them in different places. First, we have both been working at reading through the bible together this year. More to help me than anything, I have been tracking/blogging the times/insights that I get on a "spiritual" blog. You can take a look at;

On the right you can also find some musical interests thanks for Pandora. If you like music and are online at all during the day, Pandora is a blast and very cool! Basically, it is predictive listening. All that means is that you can choose an artist or song that you like and it will choose similar style genre's to your liking. Check it out.

Social networking has been something that both of us utilize in a few ways. Are you on Facebook? Either way, you can see our profiles or become our friends (virtually, at least) here;

A work in progress is my newest blog; Silicon Valley Outsider which is basically a compilation of thoughts, research, interesting stuff I come across and links that I think are useful. I have changed the name 3 times already and still figuring out the purpose. But overall it is mostly for me to log stuff so that I can go back and find it.

Wesleys 1st Grade Review

As a proud father of a 1st grader (and a kindergartener and toddler) I thought it fitting to post a bit about Wesley's parent-teacher conference today. I was not there due to some meetings. However, when Wendy came home and shared with me I had to brag just a bit.

His teacher, Maestra Marisol, who is a terrifice teacher, said he is very advanced and doing quite well! Of course, that is always encouraging for a father to hear. Then Wendy showed me his school journal and I had to post - it is, of course, in spanish (I will translate - via Wendy's help - but it you need a cool tool to translate you can always use babelfish.yahoo.com - works well):

From Wes's journal:

Esto es lo que paso en el fin de semana. Primeo, yo estaba malito porque tenke fiebre. Despues, mi mama me dio medicina. Al final, yo me recupere y ya me siento bien. Asi pase el fin de semana.

Translation:

This is what happend this weekend. First, I had a fever. Next my mom gave me some medicine. Finally, I recuperated and felt better. That is what happened on the weekend.

Now if that was not cool enough, he had all the puncuation, grammer and accents correct. I am sure I did not. Great job Wesley!!

My rant about language development; we are one of the only countries in the world that do not require a second language for our kids. I have always wanted Wes and the boys to learn and what a great time for them to learn as their brains are like sponges. He loves it and is doing quite well.

Thomas starts in the fall and is really excited to spend time with his brother at school. Soon I will have to learn because I know they will talk code if I don't. My opinion - put your child in an environment to learn a second language.
